Planning

Ive been really busy over the last couple of weeks in planning for the ride.
I wish I could spend more time on it, but with work and home commitments its proving difficult.
Im happy that ive moved things forward in the last couple of weeks though, for a start this website is up and running!
Heres some of the things ive been working on recently…
Route Planning:
I have worked out a couple of possible routes, although it does seem quite challenging doing this as you have to keep an overall view of the route but at the same time go to extreme detail on the maps to pick routes with the road types required, for example i could be planning a stage of the trip from Lands End to Dartmoor so I have an overall idea of the intended route, but i then need to zoom right in to and follow the quieter roads which I would prefer to cycle along, staying zoomed in and also reaching the target can prove very time consuming!
The current route is around 1100 miles and takes me from Lands End, up through my home county of Northamptonshire then up the east side of the penines and into scotland.
Ride Date:
Ive been trying to work out potential dates for the ride, trying to blend them with my guestimated route distances so as to try to guess the total ride length and also to guage where I will be at certain times in the trip. I have finally come to a decision on the start date, I will update the home page with this date over the next few days as soon as I have checked a few things.
Charitable Causes:
This is the key part of the planning so far, it is afterall one of the biggest driving factors in doing the ride.
I have chosen two causes for the ride, one being a very local cause, Fairfields School. This was important to me as most of the sponsor money would come from local sources so i think its nice for those people to be able to see their donations making a real difference on a local scale.
The second cause is Leukaemia Research, this is a very well known and worthy cause that lots of people can relate to. Most people know someone who has been affected by Leukaemia or its related illnesses, me included. Please show your support for these two very worthy causes and make a donation to this event. Every single penny will go directly to Fairfields School and Leukaemia Research.
